"In the South Seas: a white picket fence" by Francie V.

This piece is based on a book “In The South Seas” written by Robert Louis Stevenson about his  seven-month long boat trip from San Francisco to Hawaii in the late 1880’s. While in Hawaii, he befriended many of the feared cannibals which included the Queen of the Cannibals who was compared to be as educated and high class as a Parisean Dutchess.

The first frame is based on a photograph of San Francisco in the 1880’s, the portrait of R. L. Stevenson is based on my own illustration and the last is based on a photograph of the Queen’s house in the late 1880’s.
